Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck by Dr. Jamil Al Jamali

Introduction

Dr. Jamil Al Jamali offers Tummy Tuck, a popular cosmetic surgery for improving the appearance of your abdomen.

Tummy Tuck

What is a Tummy Tuck?

A Tummy Tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a procedure that aims to enhance the aesthetics of the abdomen by eliminating excess skin and fat, as well as tightening the abdominal muscles. This procedure is most suitable for individuals who have not been able to regain their skin elasticity after significant weight loss or pregnancy.

What happens during Tummy Tuck surgery?

Performed under general anesthesia, Tummy Tuck surgery can take between 2 to 5 hours. Depending on the excess skin and fat, there are three techniques used:

  1. Full abdominoplasty – for those with a lot of excess skin. The surgeon makes a curved cut from one hip to the other, removing any excess skin and fat, and tightens the skin.
  2. Mini abdominoplasty – for those with a little excess skin. Only a small cut above the pubic area is necessary to remove excess skin.
  3. Endoscopic abdominoplasty – when you only need abdominal wall muscle tightening. Small cuts are made, and special surgical instruments are used.

Going home after Tummy Tuck surgery

Patients can generally return home 2-3 days after a full abdominoplasty. Post-operative pain management is provided, and patients are usually mobile from day one. Normal activities can often be resumed within six weeks. Patients are advised to maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly for best results.

Specific complications following Tummy Tuck

Like any surgical procedure, tummy tucks also carry some risk. These can range from general post-operative complications, like pain, bleeding, infection, and unsightly scarring, to tummy tuck-specific issues like swelling, numbness, persistent pain, and cosmetic problems.
